Thursday, 11th August 2017

"BAHAWALPUR: Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah Tuesday said reforms would have to be introduced for swift disposal of 1.2 million cases pending in courts across 36 districts of the province, including the LHC.

He urged lawyers to respect judges as it would strengthen judiciary, besides bar-bench relations.

He was addressing a ceremony here arranged in his honour by LHC Bahawalpur Bench Bar Association.

The chief justice said around 1.1 million cases were pending in courts throughout the province and over 100,000 cases at the Lahore High Court. Reforms should be introduced for early disposal of the cases, he added.    He said mediation centers had been set up at every district, which had been helping in timely disposal of cases.   He said lawyers fraternity should not be concerned that establishment of mediation centers would affect their income.

"Lawyers will receive their fee from clients as per routine but their cooperation to mediation centers would help in timely disposal of pending cases," he said, adding cases pending for 15 years were disposed of at mediation centers within 15 minutes."
